JEDCO and the European Commission Launch the Jordan Services Modernisation Programme (JSMP)


First Pilot Programme Focusing on the Services Sector
On 25 March 2009, Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO) announced the launch of Jordan Services Modernisation Programme (JSMP). A four year programme co-funded by the Government of Jordan and the European Commission, and implemented by Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO).
JSMP is a pilot programme focusing on the service sector in Jordan. The programme specific objectives are to upgrade the services companies and business associations (Business up-grading, Export development, Finance, Policy) and to enhance the export capacity of Jordanian services providers.
JEDCO / JSMP announced its first initiative «Quick Response Grant Scheme». The Quick Response grant scheme is designed to provide an immediate response to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and business associations from the service sector, to meet the challenges raised by the world economic crisis.
The first Information Day was held on 25 March 2009 in JEDCO attended by 150 participants from the private sector and the business associations. JEDCO CEO Eng. Yarub Qudah, presented the grants objectives, approach, eligibility and the evaluation criteria, in the presence of EC Delegation Representative Ms. Germana Topolovec. JUMP acting CEO Eng. Omar Qaryouti, JUMP presented a practical case study. Q&A session was held at the end of the Orientation Session.
JEDCO will hold Information Days in, Aqaba (30 March) and Irbid (2 April 09), to cover the North, Middle and South regions in Jordan. The purpose of the Information Days is to create awareness of this initiative and to encourage SME’s to submit competitive grant proposals. The total budget for the Quick Response grant programme is EUR 250,000 and the maximum grant per SME will be EUR 10,000. The deadline for submitting the proposals will be on 30 April 2009.
JSMP will also launch another 5 grant schemes that are expected to be announced in May 2009, under which, a total of EUR 6 million grants will be dedicated to direct support to the private sector and EUR 2 million to guarantee medium to long term loans to services SMEs
